Children's Hospital Los Angeles
From the dust jacket of Childrens Hospital and the Leaders of Los Angeles:
In 1901, a group of civic-minded women realized that fast growing Los Angeles lacked a hospital equipped to care for children, so the women raised funds and created the original Childrens Hospital. They started in a small clapboard house with two bedrooms, four beds, and one volunteer doctor. This history album recounts the stories of the founders and others like them, such as two early volunteer doctors, two volunteer hospital presidents and two original donors.
Founded in 1901 by a small group of dedicated women, CHLA has grown to be one of the world's foremost pediatric medical centers, now receiving approximately 300,000 patient visits each year. For a century, loyal and generous supporters have helped the hospital provide outstanding patient care, exemplary medical education, and acclaimed scientific research.
